I believe he said "overhead" not transaction cost. That would include purchasing new servers for the storage. Keep in mind they wish to scale back the resorces needed to run GW to free up resorces for GW2.

Buying Storage tabs > Buying char slots
Buying Storage tabs > Buying new accounts

Why? Because I've ALWAYS been able to buy chars or accounts. I've ALWAYS been able to have as much raw storage as I want. I already have two accounts and 2 extra char slots on my main account, and that's about as much storage as I need.

The problem is, the way I am forced to use all that storage... IT SUCKS. I hate having to change chars all the time, organizing my stuff, remembering where I put everything (or more likely, having to hunt through all my chars whenever I want something).

If I want to move stuff between two accounts I have to get a guild-mate to help, and possibly run the gauntlet of ANet thinking there's some Real Money Trading going on in the process. I don't have two gaming PC's, I don't have whatever it is that runs 2 copies of Guild Wars - and why should I need such things?

Extra storage tabs are the answer. They dramatically improve access to my stuff, and THAT's easily worth $10 a pop to me.

So enough with the "only an idiot would buy 20 slots of storage when you could have xxx slots for the same money". Because it's not about getting more storage. I don't need MORE storage for my items (if I did, I would have bought characters/accounts already).

No, what I need is BETTER ACCESS to the items I'm already storing. Storage tabs deliver, characters/accounts do not.

1) you dont HAVE to buy the storage.
2) 10$ is for server space, it doesnt grow on trees...

It's 23 April here already (GMT +8), so few hours from now, storage tab will already be available for purchase.

I am willing to pay US$10 for each tab, but based on players' feedback, US$10 is overpriced. If i buy for US$10 as soon as it comes out, will I get a refund when anet decides to lower the price of the storage tab?

Or should i wait until they make a final statement that the price will be set at US$10.00 (or US$5.00)?

Look, there are some upgrades in the store that cost $5 to purchase, they're surely NOT giving them away for free or near free.

Those give just /bonus items. Those can perfectly cost around 1€. Mostly, all you pay is the key to update the 'status' of your account to 2005 and 2008 'special' versions. That is, the process that tags your account as that version.

I think i have a amicable solution.

Ive read every post in this thread more then once actually. i think the responsible thing to do is wait until A-net releases their P&L's. Then we can go through their numbers and see where we can correct them on their price points. I dont know what kind of revenue stream they have aside from chapter sales.

When we get their P&L number, we will see if were being gouged. If we are then maybe a customer grass roots effort will be in order.

I dont think anyone can blindly make accusations about A-nets P&L's without first seeing their fiscal sheets.

thats just my opinion.

1) It does not make sense that ANet would buy new servers just for the storage without knowing if this item will be a good sale. It also does not make sense if they wanted to scale back resources for GW2 to add new server to GW1

2) Anet has also in many occasions in the past stated that server/bandwidth aren't an issue, blah blah blah, look for Jeff Strain interviews if you want to know more, the point is, the game started with the need for very little server/bandwidth cost resulting in no subscription fees needed, so its doe not make sense they would add a new server/bandwidth.

3) They already scaled back the resources needed to run GW, there's only 2 live team member, remember? Unless in some odd cases, or in the effort to confuse us, someone wants to claim and wants to make a huge list of people working on updating the GW1.

Just does not make any sense.

If you buy a car, and a year down the road the price goes down, do you get a refund? If you buy a computer, and three months later the price goes down, do you get a refund?

It is only 9:30'ish in the morning Anet time. They usually do updates in the afternoon *their* time. So while it may be getting near the 23rd in some regions it is still early on the 23rd where they are.

Although I understand the intent of the sentence, it doesn't make sense.

It should have read: "I am definitely not going to get this because they are charging us."

I guess the thread must be getting old, when I start to nitpick on wording.

That's absolutely true, I agree, but the thing is, the comparisons people make between the storage and seperate accounts and characters is simply because the xunlai tabs are waaaay overpriced. Of course more tabs is more convenient than character slots or GWx2, but at the current cost, it's not really worth it. I still believe if they made tabs $0,99 or $1,49 more people would buy them, and they'd make more money than they will now.

lol i noticed that when we first read the thread i didn't tihnk it was appropriae to bring it up...

The main reason i'n not going to buy them;

-Guild wars is coming to an end, needed it couple years ago.

-The release of nightfall added inscriptions, the release of eotn added consumables and books. Game updates added more books for factions, prophecies. Game updates added summoning stones of all sorts taking up slots per kind. Not to mention Hom mini pets, weapons need to be stored somewhere. This is short list.

now anet must have forseen this right. Maybe it was part of the plan since they are not making new campiagnes or expansions. Lets add bunch of ingame items and sell them storage instead to keep making money, they'll blindly love it. I just hope anets new motto doesn't start being buy the game play with no monthly fees but you can buy all kinds of upgrades from our online store.

well i'm done with this thread this how i fell about it we are free to our opinions.

i sure hope the promotional thing is buy any item from our online store during the month of May and recieve free storage tab and not buy one tab get one free that would be lame imo.
